Who was Matthew Colwell?
Born on July 10th 1995, Matthew “Matt” Colwell was a beloved son, brother, and friend to many. On the early morning of February 29, 2016, his life was cut short at the age of 20.
Matt was most known as a loyal friend. His striking blue eyes, distinct dimple, and infectious laughter were eclipsed only by his individuality, his stubborn determination, and endless capacity for creative thinking.
Since childhood, Matt had a passion for the things he loved and cared about. Whether it was playing seven seasons with the Coventry Rams Pop Warner Football League, his career dreams of being a sports commentator or UFC fighter, or his interest in fashion, Matt always had a driving force behind him.
A 2013 graduate of Coventry High School, Matt was monumental in starting the streetwear brand SOSICO. The majority of his junior year was spent conceptualizing, alongside his business partner Zack, what would become their future brand.
Matt’s ability to think so deeply and analytically started to really sharpen throughout his late teenage years. He was genuinely brilliant and ahead of his time - we just hadn’t fully realized it yet. He was a master at balancing his snarky sarcasm and wit with warm regards and the kindest, most genuine gestures. If you hated Matt, you just didn’t know him yet. His over-confident thuggish demeanor was mostly a facade to protect the caring and thoughtful person within.
While on Earth, Matt made a mark on our small part of the world. In his name, we’d like to help someone else make their own mark.
